Welcome Back to the 2017 China-U.S. Young Maker Competition!

We're calling upon all U.S-based Makers who have the ideas and skills that can change the world. Join our challenge and build innovative projects that solve real problems, while competing against other tinkerers from China on a quest to become the ultimate global Maker.

Use Intel hardware and submit projects that have impact in the following areas:

  • Community Development
  • Education
  • Energy
  • Environmental Protection
  • Health & Fitness
  • Transportation

Competition Timeline:

  • Registration opens: April 18, 2017 at 8:00 AM PT

Guidelines for Creating Your Project:

  • Innovation and Creativity: Is the project innovative and creative? (40 points)
  • Completeness: Is the project fully developed and does it have the functionality described? (40 points)
  • Application Prospects: Does the project have the potential to make an impact on a real world problem? (20 points)

How to Submit Your Idea:

  • Must be a legal resident of the United States between the ages of 18-40.
  • Create a free account.
  • Register to participate in this contest by clicking "Register as a Participant."
  • Post a short video with your submission in the template.
  • Finish by submitting a complete project. Click "Submit my final entry."

10 lucky semi-finalists will fly to Beijing, China to compete in a global competition with a chance to win:

  • First prize: approximately $15,000 USD

Co-making the Future: A China-US Young Maker Competition

Travel: travel for up to five (5) Individuals (consisting of a Contestant having entered alone, or a Team Leader and up to Five (5) Members of a Team to Mainland China to participate in the Finalist Phase.

a) Trip packages includes a. Coach-class round-trip air transportation from a major airport near each traveler’s home (determined by Organizers in its sole discretion) to mainland, China on or about 7 August 2017, and a return flight on 12 August 2017; b. Up to Seven (7) nights’ accommodations (up to Three standard rooms for 1 project; each double occupancy); daily meals; c. Attendance at a Final Awards Ceremony (all details determined by Organizers); and b) Semi-Finalists must travel on dates specified by Organizers or the prize will be forfeited. Travel should be arranged immediately upon confirmation of Semi Finalist status, but no later than 10 July 2017.

c) Travel and accommodations are subject to availability. Travel must be round trip. Travel is subject to the terms and conditions set forth in these Official Rules, and those set forth by the Organizers’ airline carrier of choice as detailed in the passenger ticket contract. All expenses and incidental travel costs not expressly stated in the package description above, including but not limited to, ground transportation, most meals, incidentals, gratuities, passenger tariffs or duties, airline and airport fees, surcharges, service charges or facility charges, personal charges, security fees, taxes and all other expenses are the responsibility solely of each Semi-Finalist.

d) Each Semi-Finalist must have a valid passport and any other documents necessary for international travel to Mainland China. Travel restrictions, conditions and limitations may apply.

e) Organizers will not replace any lost, mutilated, or stolen tickets, travel vouchers or certificates. Approximate retail value of the trip (assuming 5 Members traveling): $3,000 per person USD. Actual value will vary based on airfare fluctuations and distance between departure and destination as well as the number of Individuals who travel. Semi-Finalists will not receive difference between actual and approximate retail value.
