Water resources are an essential part of the solution to climate change. Water use has increased from 500 billion to 4 trillion cubic meters over the last century. It is well known that climate change and the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme wheater events, will aggravate the fresh water consumption and availability in many countries that already have water problems and even countries that have not been afected by this problem yet. In this manner, it is very important to avoid, as much as possible, any contamination sources that affect fresh water. But, first of all, we must detect those pollution sources.
Using QuickFeather & SensiML AI plus different kind of sensors to detect water characteristics (pH, temperature, conductivity, ORP, turbidity, TDS, salinity, SG) I will develop and build a system that can measure and analyze water information. With the analized information the system can provide a visual and/or audio alarm, and where is possible, use the WiFi connectivity to give anticipated feedback to pay atention to pollulants on that area, those alarms will lead us to act before the problem increase, or even better, before the problem exists in locations where it dont exist yet.
The system PoC module is intended to be located close to known fresh water sources, with the visual/audio alarm on the open in a way that the alarms can be easily seen. When is possible, the WiFi adapter close to an available access point. The sensor(s) probes will be in touch with water and the central module board enclosed in a water proof case. The system main QuickFeather board will be previously trained with the algorithm generated with SensiML AI Analytic Studio to perform all the analisys locally on the device.
3D Parts
The project uses a water sensor 7 in 1 and the first modification is to design and print an extension cap to replace the original battery. Attached to the project are the STL files of the parts and here is how it looks:
