In recent years, the great success of Lunar landers and Mars rovers has been supported by the development of advanced composites. According to NASA’s 2020 Mars rover mission, a Mars helicopter was sent to Mars as a technology demonstrator, and the composites dominate the main structural components such as rotor blades and airframe. This reveals the fact that the precise manufacturing and inspection of advanced composites become a critical technique in spacecraft. This project addresses these challenges by developing an intelligent detection robot using the AMD Kria KR260 Robotics Starter Kit. The robot conducts fully automated inspection through Robot Operating System 2 (ROS 2) and identifies defects using a neural network-based fault recognition system.
