I'm excited about the new SOMRT1061 development board and wanted to show off its capabilities in a fun unique way! Since it comes with a Qwiic I2C connector, it's super easy to hook up off-the-shelf I2C devices from vendors like SparkFun, and I've been working on a 3D printed case design for the dev board for awhile. Add in some excellent work improving the NetBurner Wire I2C library from my colleagues and we've got the ingredients for a great tutorial!
To show off how this all works, I mixed the NetBurner Earthquake WebClient example with SparkFun’s 1.3” Qwiic OLED Display and a 12-button Qwiic Keypad. With the new Wire library and a thin Arduino compatibility layer, I was able to copy-paste SparkFun's Arduino examples into my NetBurner project with nearly zero changes.
I also designed a 3D-printed enclosure for the SOMRT1061 dev kit. This custom case is created with OpenSCAD's YAPP library, so it's customizable and hopefully a fun way to bring some polish to projects. Please enjoy!
