This concept for the Lights for Life Challenge is centered on creating Li-Fi Mesh networks LED-to-LED for Smart Cities applications. For this competition submission I will use three urban cases as examples of how a LI-Fi Mesh network can use smart LED’s to have a big impact of the life of citizens worldwide. The three cases I am using are real world problems in my local area. Multimodal Transportation Infrastructure Systems in Baltimore Maryland, Off-Boarding of Fare payments for the Washington DC Street Cars system, and Parks as a Platform for Democracy in urban parks systems in Washington. This is a Smart Cities idea, for the Lights for Life Challenge.
This solution matters because it promotes our democratic ideals, diminishes the digital divide, improves urban transportation, and reduces traffic congestion due to public transportation stops and starts. The Lights for Life Li-Fi Mesh Networks LED-to-LED for Smart Cities Application addresses the following key points:
· This project is designed as a smart LED to LED network. It is made up of a number of individual fixtures that comprise an Li-Fi network.
· The concept will deliver a public Li-Fi that will connect citizen to the internet to carry out an unlimited amount of public and community services that will better enable the way people live their lives. The Li-Fi service could respond intuitively to people everywhere.
· The Li-Fi network will have the added advantage of emitting light by LEDs utilizing a new set of Wi-Fi sensor enabled C by GE bulbs systems.
· The network will make use of wireless Li-Fi networks to deliver services.
· Some portions of the concept will include mics and speakers; used for citizens to address their elected representatives.
· Motion/ position sensors will be used to track the movement of street car riders and networked LED’s will deliver rider fare payments via backhaul to a Metro database.
· This is a Smart LED city as a service application.
