Hello. My solution, "Light Guardian", fits into 2 categories "Security" and "Smart Homes".
From my personal experience, and based on the similar feedback from friends and relatives, I see how non-smart are the traditional security lights. They switch on the light outside, but you then try to find out though the windows who or what triggered the motion-sensing mechanism at night. And this is assuming that you are at home, next to the windows or door at that particular moment.
However, people want to have smarter home security solutions, without the need to expose themselves, be able to differentiate between false and true alarms, and get notified on specific events even if they are far from their homes when they (events) happen.
My idea is to address this particular need, by building affordable, intelligent lighting fixture, that consists of motion-sensing camera, C-Sleep bulb by GE, outdoor speakers and intelligent hub (e.g. Raspberry Pi or similar small-factor CPU).
- When somebody / something approaches the monitoring area, motion-sensing camera activates C-Sleep bulb in its bright AM mode to get clear view of the surrounding environment;
- Images from the camera are then processed in CPU module, with the image recognition process (utilising APIs similar to MS' Cognitive Services https://www.microsoft.com/cognitive-services/en-us/video-api) being able to identify whether moving object is a human being, car or an animal.
- If it's a person, face recognition process can check if it's somebody from the household family (via its internal DB of images) and if yes, switch C-Sleep into "warm" PM mode and greet via speakers, e.g. "Good evening, John. Welcome home !"
- In the similar way, for the approached car my solution would be able to read the number plate and recognise if it's of the house owner's, while for the animal verify whether it's your cat returning from its evening walk;
- For unrecognised animal (big and small), e.g. bear or rats, your speakers may produce ultrasound signal to repel them;
- And, finally, for unrecognised person or car, system can either automatically synthesise a warning message, e.g. "This is a private property, monitored by CCTV. Don't you think that 2am is a bit late for the night visit?" and / or send a warning to your mobile phone.
You may be at home or thousands miles away, but still be sure that the "Light Guardian" keeps a watchful eye on your house day and night, to greet you when you are back from work, confirm that kids have safely returned from the school, keep rodents out or warn you when there are any strangers lurking around.
