I wanted to make a smart security device because of the direction smart appliances and other home objects are going. Essentially, the SafeSmart is a connected light fixture with a camera and alarm. Multiple SafeSmarts could be connected around the home to create a safe perimeter with maximum coverage. However, the key is that they are connected to the alarm system. When in normal use, the SafeSmart is just an attractive overhead light that projects a low temperature hue similar to the night setting on the GE bulbs. If the alarm in the house is tripped for some reason, the bulbs switch to their high temperature mode and will strobe. Though the video camera is always on, the video files will be deleted after two days and overwritten - unless the video happened to be in conjunction with an alarm trip. Then the videos are saved indefinitely for use by the homeowner or law enforcement if needed. During an alarm trip, the alarms on the actual SafeSmart won't activate for 30 seconds in case it is just you entering your own house. You will be able to also set the strobe function to wait 30 seconds as well (or any time from 0-30). Since all the SafeSmarts are connected, an break in will be visible and audible to neighbors from all sides. Also, just like GE's bulbs, the devices can be controlled from a smart phone app, and the SafeSmart will also be able to be controlled remotely over the internet due to it's connection with the alarm system. Future versions of the device could incorporate the camera into facial recognition, as well as voice recognition with a microphone.
