Nopasa WiFi Monitor protects your home WiFi from hackers and rogue WiFi connections. Unlike competition Nopasa Monitor is always ON. CHIP small power requirement and size makes it a perfect platform for Utility service such as Network Monitoring. CHIP with installed Nopasa software creates IoT device that, connects to your WiFi network and monitors it 24/7, sending connection data to the Cloud for analysis and alerting.
You will need CHIP with default Debian installation.
Assuming you have a brand new spanking CHIP running Debian
- Plug chip into USB with a GOOD USB cord (if something turns off or break, change cord first)
Boot and login CHIP headless Full Instructions How to log In Headless. Or If you have CHIP SDK (run all in sudo
or as root)
sudo Vagrant up
Vagrant ssh
- Connects as sudo screen
/dev/ttyACM0 115200
- Login with default user:
root
, password:chip
Once at the CHIP prompt as root, connect to WiFi like sonmcli
device WiFi connect 'Your WiFi SSID' password 'Your WiFi Password' ifname wlan0
- Replace WiFi name and WiFI password with your connection info.
- This will create WiFi connection on
wlan0
interface. and you should see something like:
"Connection with UUID '1b751868-0b6e-4570-b4f9-723c01f9eee8' created and activated on device 'wlan0'
"
Once you connected run the following command:
wget --no-check-certificate -O - https://www.nopasa.com/chip | bash
- We advise you to inspect content of a install URL before passing it to BASH
- For some reason cheap certificates don't play well with
wget
and I am not about to drop $200 for a "proper" one so disregardwget
warningwith --no-check-certificate.
Important: Installation will setup Wifi Access Point, name "nopasa
" on wlan1. Make sure you enter good password when asked. Unplug CHIP from USB port and connect to power supply capable of at least 2 Ah. Wait 10-20 seconds to let it boot.
Use your computer or smart phone to connect to newly created Nopasa WiFi Access Point using password you provided during installation. Once on Nopasa network go to http://10.10.10.10, you will see something like this:
This is your WiFi configuration page, you go here to change WiFi to monitor. Next step will be to Change your computers WiFi connection back to your home network and open the administration URL as suggested. Once you connected to Administration interface you will see something similar to:

And as a final touch I used some clear heat shrink tubing to make myself an awesome CHIP case. I placed note with password I used under it too.
And it simply hangs as a Christmas ornament between my monitors:
