It is no surprise to those who know me that Guitar Hero is my number 1 favorite video game ever. My My favorite guitar hero game is Guitar Hero 3: Legend of Rock! The soundtrack is great (see for yourself ) and the HOPO's make me look like I play better than I actually do. My wrists are not very happy about this but I currently play about 7 hours a week when I am able to.
I would love to improve my skills but:- The only Wii I have available to me is in my dorm (I can’t hog the Wii and play even more than I currently do)
- I am getting bored of playing GH3 all the time! Guitar Hero has also stopped producing new games.
- Guitar Hero guitars are really expensive ($60 - $100) and working ones are hard to find.
So, to solve my woes I decided to create a PocketBeagle controlled Clone Hero controller, completely customizable to suit my preferences.
System Block DiagramBuild Instructions
- First, using a breadboard, wire up the components according the schematic above. Use jumper wires for quick prototyping, however beware it would be very messy.
- Attach a USB Cable from the Serial Adapter to your Computer.
- Then, download the code available on my Github and follow the instructions regarding software set up.
- And now you have a controller!
Unfortunately, due to the Anti-Cheat software embedded on the the Clone Hero game, simulated key presses are not recognized by the device and so it doesn't work very well. On flash games, the javascript from simulated keypresses are also interpreted incorrectly. :(
