During the Innovation Faire of Sovramonte on the 27th of April, we organised a Mini Robowar and my team participated with Dublefas, our beater robot.
Dublefas, a beater bar robot. Our robot was a beater bar type, using a CNC machined 7075 aluminium part that rotates thanks to a BLDC motor.
We used the PCBWay CNC service to produce the beater bar. It was very good, during the fights we managed to place very good hits on the other robot.
For the wheel motor we used two MG90 servos with metal gear, which I modified so that they could rotate 360 degrees instead of the standard 0-180 degrees. I also tried to give them some speed by powering the motor driver directly from the battery, but after a while they burned out, so I don't recommend this mod.
We tried to make some custom rubber wheels, but due to lack of time at the competition, we used wheels with rubber bands glued to them, which were lighter and much easier to make. The grip was not the same, but it was good enough for our purposes.
The structure was printed using MJF technology to create stronger parts. Instead, the upper part was made from carbon fibre, which we cut on our DIY CNC machine.
TestsBefore the game, we did some tests to make sure everything was working properly:
Best fightAfter losing our first round of the turnamend because one of the seven engines died, we ask a squad to make a friendly fight. It was the best fight of the day for me. They won because we forgot to add treads, our screw was locked and the weapon shaft broke.
