I used a LilyPad since I have a ton of them in my studio, but can be substituted with an Arduino of your choice. The charging circuit and on/off switch makes this one pretty convenient.
A little overview of the augmented hammer for a Ramona Flowers costume I made for Halloween in 2014. I'm going to be upgrading this project with some new features for Dragon Con 2018.
This was a quick prop build for a Halloween party using hardware I had around my studio - a LilyPad Arduino, NeoPixel strips, and LilyPad Button. The bulk of the build was fabricating the hammer. I carved it out of foam and fiberglassed it for durability. The strips were embedded in the hammer before fiberglassing and shine through the resin for a glowing effect.

Future idea
Future idea of this prop will be making a detachable pole for shipping/traveling with and to upgrade the electronics to include motion sensing and a sound effects component to mimic the hammer reveal from Ramona's fight scene in the film.
