We didnβt start Mesh Node in a lab. We started it on a trek.
A group of us went trekking with friends, looking forward to time in nature and a break from the city. Everything was going well until one of our friends took a different path and got separated from the group. At first, we thought they were just a little behind. But as time passed, concern quickly turned into worry.
We checked our phones and tried calling and messaging β but there was no network. No signal. No internet. We were completely disconnected. The terrain made it difficult to search, and there was no way to coordinate properly.
It took us nearly 3 to 4 hours to finally find our friend. Thankfully, they were safe. But those hours felt long and stressful, and the experience stayed with us even after the trek ended.
During that time, one question kept coming back to us: why does communication completely disappear in places where itβs needed the most? We live in a world full of technology, yet in remote areas, staying connected becomes almost impossible.
That moment became our motivation. We wanted a simple and reliable way to communicate without depending on mobile networks. Something that could work anywhere, powered by people and community rather than towers and infrastructure.
That idea led us to explore mesh communication and long-range wireless technology, inspired by community-driven systems. Over time, that vision turned into Mesh Node β a device built for safety, connection, and peace of mind when signals fail.
Mesh Node is our answer to that experience on the trail. Itβs not meant to replace smartphones, but to support you when they stop working. A reliable companion for moments when staying connected truly matters.
Features of Mesh NodeMesh Node connects to your phone through Bluetooth in just a few steps. Once connected, you can use the Meshtastic app to handle everything β sending messages, checking device status, viewing battery levels, and managing location sharing.
Thereβs no need for mobile data or network coverage. Simply open the app, connect to Mesh Node, and continue communicating normally. Itβs designed to feel familiar, simple, and stress-free, even when youβre far away from cellular signals.
π‘ Long-Range Messaging with LoRa (Up to 4β5 km)Mesh Node uses LoRa long-range communication to send and receive messages over long distances β up to 4β5 kilometers in open areas. This means you can stay in touch even when there is no mobile network, no internet, and no Wi-Fi.
Once your message is sent, it travels directly from one device to another using LoRa. This makes Mesh Node especially useful in remote locations, outdoor trips, and situations where regular communication simply doesnβt work. Itβs a simple and reliable way to stay connected when you need it most.

π‘οΈ Advanced Environmental Monitoring with BME280π·Mesh Node is equipped with the BME280 environmental sensor, which continuously measures temperature, humidity, and air pressure. These readings help you better understand your surroundings, especially in outdoor, remote, or off-grid environments where conditions can change quickly.
Mesh Node accurately tracks the surrounding temperature throughout the day. This is especially important during outdoor travel, camping, hiking, or long stays in remote areas, where temperature changes can directly affect comfort and safety.
Knowing the real-time temperature helps you decide when to rest, stay hydrated, adjust clothing, or plan your route. Sudden drops or rises in temperature can also alert you to changing weather conditions, helping you prepare before it becomes uncomfortable or risky.
π§ Humidity MonitoringHumidity levels indicate how much moisture is present in the air, which directly impacts how the temperature feels. High humidity can make warm weather feel heavier and more exhausting, while low humidity can cause dry skin, dehydration, and discomfort.
By monitoring humidity, Mesh Node helps you better understand air quality and comfort levels. This is useful during long outdoor activities, travel across different climates, or extended stays in one location where environmental conditions matter.
π¨ Air Pressure MonitoringAir pressure readings provide valuable insight into altitude changes and weather patterns. When traveling through hilly or mountainous regions, changes in air pressure can help indicate elevation gain or loss.
Additionally, shifts in air pressure can signal upcoming weather changes. A gradual drop may suggest incoming rain or storms, while stable pressure often indicates steady conditions. This makes Mesh Node helpful for planning movement, setting camp, or adjusting travel plans β all without needing internet access.
π Smart Motion & Activity Tracking with AccelerometerMesh Node is equipped with an accelerometer that continuously monitors movement and motion patterns. This allows the device to understand different types of physical activity and respond intelligently, making it especially useful for outdoor adventures, travel, fitness, and safety in remote areas.
Mesh Node can detect regular walking movement by analyzing consistent, low-impact motion patterns. This helps track daily movement and travel progress during hikes, city walks, or long journeys. Walking detection is useful for understanding how much youβve moved, monitoring activity during trips, and keeping a general record of movement throughout the day.
π Running & Jogging DetectionWhen movement becomes faster and more intense, the accelerometer identifies running or jogging activity. This allows Mesh Node to differentiate between normal walking and higher-energy motion. Whether youβre jogging, training, or moving quickly in outdoor environments, the device recognizes the change in activity level and tracks it accordingly.
π₯οΈ Double-Tap to Wake ScreenMesh Node supports a double-tap screen-on feature, allowing you to wake the display with a simple double tap. This makes it quick and easy to check messages, battery level, time, or device status without pressing any buttons.
The feature is designed for convenience and power efficiency β the screen stays off to save battery and lights up only when you need it. Itβs especially useful when Mesh Node is mounted on gear, kept in a pocket, or used on the move.
π¨ Fall Detection for Added SafetyOne of the most critical features enabled by the accelerometer is fall detection. Mesh Node monitors sudden, unusual movements that may indicate a fall or accident. If such an event is detected, the device can trigger alerts or send notifications to connected users through the network.
This feature is especially valuable for solo travelers, hikers, elderly users, or anyone spending time in remote areas where immediate help may not be available. Fall detection adds a vital layer of safety and peace of mind.
By understanding different movement types, Mesh Node goes beyond basic communication. It actively supports safety, activity awareness, and confidence β helping users stay informed and protected in both everyday life and off-grid environments.
π USB Type-C Fast ChargingMesh Node features USB Type-C fast charging, making it easy and convenient to power up the device using modern cables and chargers. The Type-C port allows faster and more efficient charging compared to older connectors, helping reduce downtime and keep the device ready for use.
Whether youβre charging at home, in a vehicle, or using a power bank while traveling, USB-C ensures broad compatibility and quick recharging. This makes Mesh Node especially practical for long trips and remote use, where reliable and fast charging matters most.
π‘ LoRa Mesh & LoRaWAN Support for Extended CommunicationMesh Node is built with support for both LoRa Mesh and LoRaWAN, allowing it to operate in different communication setups depending on the environment. These two technologies work together to provide long-range, flexible, and reliable communication β especially when traditional networks are unavailable.
In a LoRa mesh network, devices communicate directly with one another instead of depending on a central tower or internet connection. Each Mesh Node acts as both a sender and a receiver. When a message is sent, nearby Mesh Nodes can receive it and pass it along to the next device.
This creates a chain of communication where messages βhopβ from one node to another. Because of this, communication is not limited to the range of a single device. Every additional Mesh Node strengthens the network and increases overall coverage.
π How LoRaWAN WorksLoRaWAN is designed for wide-area communication using gateways. When gateways or compatible infrastructure are available, Mesh Node can connect to larger networks, enabling extended reach and future integration with broader systems.
This adds flexibility, allowing Mesh Node to operate both in community-driven mesh environments and in areas where LoRaWAN infrastructure exists.
πΆ How Mesh Node Extends Range in Real UseIn real-world use, LoRa mesh support allows Mesh Node devices to work together as an ecosystem. For example, if two users are too far apart to communicate directly, intermediate Mesh Nodes can relay the message, extending the effective range.
This makes communication more reliable during group travel, outdoor adventures, events, or emergencies. The more Mesh Nodes present, the wider and stronger the network becomes. Instead of relying on a single point of connection, communication is shared and distributed.
By supporting both LoRa Mesh and LoRaWAN, Mesh Node delivers adaptable, long-range communication that grows with its users β ensuring better coverage, improved reliability, and dependable messaging in remote and off-grid environments.
