Easy to make Face Shield Prototype for Frontline Health work

Looking at the present need for additional personal protection equipment (apart from Mask, body cover and gloves), I developed a face shield prototype. This was made from using simple items like cap, transparent cover of report files (A4 size) and surgical mask put together. The idea is to use easily available things so that it can be developed without additional need for separate manufacturing process.

I tested this wearing my glass and I can perform the necessary tasks without much difficulty. Since this is a crude makeshift prototype some initial adjustment were needed for the fittings.

Description of the face shield:

1. The shield is attached to the crown of the cap. It covers the entire face up to the throat area.

2. The surgical mask which is placed inside the shield so that the durability of it can be prolonged. At present a simple surgical mask cannot be used more than 4-5 hours as it accumulates moisture and dust. But in this prototype the longevity of the mask is increased as it is inside the shield.

3. The straps of the surgical mask is used to control the fitting of the mask.

4. The face has a small slit to take out the accumulating water vapors/ moisture as a result of breathing. However, as it is covered by the mask in the background, it will protect the wearer from direct contact with foreign particles.
