There are Apps on android that allow you to use the camera as a motion sensor, but all of it is local and only some of them send an email to you about it, but do you really want to go to your email and wait a couple of minutes to see if there was a motion detected in your area/home, well I can show you a way to notify you automatically with beeps/sounds that you have a motion detected from your android device
Before we begin:
- Download the Motion Detector Prop app, this app detects a certain threshold (which you get to pick) until it sends you an email with an image about the movement
- Download the CharlieGuo gmail libray for python
https://github.com/charlierguo/gmail
Configure the App:
- Open Motion Detector Pro
- Go to Settings
- Put time between triggers as low as possible (10 sec)
- Turn sound setting off
- Turn on Sdcard and Cloud storage on(trust me)
- Turn on detection squre
- Keep sampling square difference
- Exit settings
- Click on the camera icon(in the app)
- Don't enter anything for phone
- Enter your personal email and remember to use the same one for later
- Set the Motion detector threshold to what you want (I found 78 good)
- Select either front face camera or back camera
- Don't Start the app yet
Configure the Python script:
- Make sure you placed the Gmail library in the Libs folder or in your current workspace (i used workspace so others can use it)
- Find where it sayd g.login("Email", "password") and enter your previous email and password
- If you want a suspend time then UNCOMMENT the socket server so that for a certain period of time the Script will suspend the Alarm
- If you look through the code, find anything else you want to change
You're done!!!
Now just start the Python script then place your phone and start the motion sensor, If any problems contact me at smerkousdavid@gmail.com
