I had long been thinking about creating an automatic xylophone that plays in the same way a human would, by moving a single mallet. Then, by chance, I came across the Roller485 Unit. With its ability to rotate precisely, I was convinced it could be the key to making my idea work.
By arranging the tone bars in a circular pattern, I was able to create an instrument that not only functions well but also looks stylish. The tone bars were taken from Nishimatsuya’s “たたいてひいて! けんばん付てっきん : Tataite Hiite! Kenban-tsuki Tekkin” (Tap and Play! Xylophone with Keyboard).
1.Create a base with a 3D printer and install the xylophone tone bars.
2.Build the playing unit using an M5ATOM Lite, Roller485 Unit, and Servo Kit 180°.
3.Assemble everything.
