This article describes how to create very simple power supply for your electronic projects. The project is very primitive and cannot be used as a laboratory power supply, but in many cases is is sufficient.
The main component of the power supply is a dedicated operating amplifier, OPA548T wich is designed to be a programmable power supply for different cases. This amplifier can be adjusted to supply required voltage and also is able to limit the current. According to its datasheet it can supply up to 3A of continuous current, never tested that, because my transformer can supply 1.5 A of 24 volts only. Pwehaps, you can use another transformer, for instance up to 100 Watts. The source 24 volts AC is converted to the DC voltage by full diode rectifier KBU1510 and capacitor. In my case it reaches about 32 volts.
The power supply has following characteristics:
- minimal voltage 1 volt
- maximal voiltage 25.6 volts
- minimal current can be adjusted to 0.67 A.
The power supply schematics is available on EasyEDA site. Most the components are available on the BOM list, but several components are not mentioned on the schematics (like a case or transformer) its description can be found in component list. As you can see on the schematics, the voltage and current limit are adjusted by multi-turn, high-resolution 10k Ohm resisters. The XL4016E1 DC-DC voltage converter and AMS1117-5.0 supply accurate 5v power source to the standard voltage and cureent meter that is mentioned in component list.
Also, the schematics has the fan managing sircuit built on LM358 op-amp that can be adjusted to activate cooling fan at specific temperature by multiturn potentiometer R11. The PCB is designed allowing to use the aluminium case like a heat sink.
As you can see, the hottest components, OPA548T operating amplifier and The XL4016E1 DC-DC voltage converter are aligned to the top line of the PCB. you can attach both components to the top (or bottom) side of the aliminium case.
Also, you can install the power socket and the power switch on back side of the power supply like I did.
Hope, this power supply can be usefull for many of my followers. Best reagrds in your hobbies.
