For this project, my group which consists of 2 people, decided to make something musical and take advantage of the aluminum foils' conductivity. We were inspired by other people's projects which revolved around a musical theme, so we decided to make a DJ-like music box.
The creation of the housing was straightforward, we made a hollow box to place two disc-shaped cardboards on top. The "discs" had some aluminum foil taped on the top and a hole in the middle covered with some onionskin paper to add a diffusion effect to the light.
Inside the discs, the aluminum extended downwards, where we clipped them to an alligator clip which was then connected to the CPX which lay inside the box looking up so the lights could be seen from the middle of the discs. The batteries were placed close to the CPXs avoiding them from getting in the way.
The hardest part was the clipping of the alligator cables to the foil since it is pretty fragile and the clips had some dents which caused them to rip the foil and we had to re-assemble some of it several times.
The coding part makes use of the different pins and some functions around them, making each play a different melody and also making each light up with different colors, also it needed to make both sound and light stop when the pin was released. This caused some issues especially with the melodies as they kept playing and making a mess by playing multiple sounds at the same time.
