VibeGuard is a monitoring device designed to detect changes in motor and pump vibration and provide early maintenance alerts. It converts machine vibrations into electrical energy to support its monitoring functions and reduce reliance on replaceable batteries.
The idea grew from my work on energy harvesting. I wanted to apply that experience to equipment monitoring, where unexpected failures can interrupt operations and replacing sensor batteries adds maintenance work. VibeGuard brings energy harvesting and vibration analysis together in one device.
A piezoelectric harvester converts mechanical vibration into electrical energy. The AEM30330 power-management circuit manages this energy and charges storage capacitors, which supply the monitoring electronics. A separate accelerometer measures vibration, while the Nordic nRF54LM20 processes the readings.
VibeGuard will use on-device AI to recognize normal vibration patterns and flag unusual changes. Bluetooth will deliver monitoring results and alerts to a nearby device, helping maintenance teams identify equipment that needs attention and prioritize inspections. Earlier detection of abnormal vibration can support timely servicing, reduce unnecessary wear and help prevent minor problems from developing into costly failures. This approach supports longer motor and pump service life, fewer unexpected shutdowns and better maintenance planning.
