I've always been fascinated with surgery. My father is a neurosurgeon and ever since I was young, I would watch him work in the operating room. Recently, he was informing me about a particular instrument he does not like in a surgery he performs a lot. The instrument was called a Polyaxial Cross Connector. There were a lot of flaws with its design and it always seems to give surgeons and patients more problems than solutions. I asked my father if I were to make my own design would he consider using it. He said yes.
I went to work on learning the about the surgery, the basic anatomy of the spine, and the newest cross connectors.
After messing around on Auto Desk Fusion 360 for a couple months, I made a 3D printable design of my version of the cross connector. I had to print it in multiple parts and then put it together.
