One of the most fundamental tools for the professional electronics engineer or weekend hobbyist is the soldering iron. Breadboards are only going to get you just so far — assembling PCBs and creating permanent electrical connections is going to take some good old-fashioned molten solder. However, a soldering iron alone isn’t going to cut it. You need lighting, magnification, a fume extractor, adjustable clamps, and a variety of additional tools.

Not only does the price of these components add up quickly, but they will also take over your entire workspace in no time. Forget about it if you need to pack up your equipment to do some field work! A Kickstarter campaign launched by Omaxs is trying to change that. It has launched a device called Solderbot that combines a soldering iron with just about everything else you could possibly need in one portable, USB-C-powered package.

Solderbot is equipped with a pen-style soldering iron that heats up in 2 seconds and has a temperature range of 230-450 degrees Celsius. A fume extractor folds down to suck up the harmful smoke produced when melting solder. A foldable LED light and 20-40x magnifier make it easier to see the small components you are working on. The clamps are especially interesting — they magnetically attach to the bottom of the case so you can position them wherever they are needed.

A number of additional tools, like wire strippers and extra soldering tips, are also included — there are 18 tools in total. Everything fits neatly in a briefcase-sized box that you can stow away to save desk space or easily take with you on the go. A single USB-C port powers everything inside Solderbot.

Rewards for this campaign start at $109, which is definitely less than you could buy all of these components for on their own. Omaxs plans to start shipping orders in September 2026.
