Power Tool Battery Pack Soldering Station

This portable soldering iron setup integrates an Einhell X-Change battery pack as part of the base.

Soldering irons allow us to construct a wide variety of electronic implements, and one could argue that it’s the most fundamental hacking tool available. The problem with such irons, though — even those that are purportedly portable — is that they need a power source of some kind. This often means finding an outlet to plug into. David_Zet, however, wasn’t satisfied with this situation and designed a holder for his iron that integrates a battery pack for portable power.

For this job, he chose an Einhell X-Change pack that forms a nice base and has some intelligence onboard to provide the proper power to a tool. While this “tool” isn’t normally a soldering iron, the battery has a rating of 18V and 3Ah, which works out to be 54Wh. This is enough juice to keep the 65W soldering iron going for about 50 minutes if it were to operate at 100% power continuously.

A 3D-printed and aluminum adapter was made for this battery pack, which holds the iron nicely when in “standby” mode. An industrial sensor cable offering the flexible connection to the iron itself. It looks like a great idea for soldering on the go. More details, along with 3D design files, are available in David_Zet's post.
