Efinix Doubles the Titanium FPGA Family Size, Which Now Reaches Nearly Two Million Logic Elements

Giant quad-core RISC-V system-on-chip FPGAs with high-performance transceivers target, unsurprisingly, artificial intelligence projects.

Field-programmable gate array (FPGA) specialist Efinix has announced a doubling of its Titanium product line, with 10 new models — including a new range-topping part with nearly two million logic elements, targeting "AI [Artificial Intelligence]-driven industries and applications."

"Titanium FPGAs are production proven and widely adopted in a variety of markets. For example, they are dominating in AI-powered machine vision industrial systems," claims Efinix president and chief executive officer Sammy Cheung of the company's newly-enlarged product line. "The FPGA augments these systems by analyzing video and sensor data, thereby streamlining manufacturing flows. The Titanium expansion plan will further support customers in these and other AI-driven markets."

The newly-expanded Titanium range, built on Taiwan Semiconductor (TSMC)'s 16/12nm process node, not only doubles the number of parts but also their maximum size: the newly range-topping Ti2000 includes almost two million — 1,947,067, to be entirely accurate — logic elements, 117 megabits of RAM, 3,808 digital signal processing (DSP) blocks, 12 phase-locked loops (PLLs), and 40 25.8Gb/s transceivers. Like the other transceiver-packing models, which starts with the Ti85, there's an on-board quad-core processor based on the RISC-V architecture — 64-bit for the newer models in the range, up from the 32-bit cores used prior.

"We are excited about the success of our transceiver devices," says Efinix chief technical officer and senior vice-president of engineering Tony Ngai, of the Titanium range that has seen the biggest number of new parts. "We were able to produce these devices from concept to samples in under a year, which was a great achievement for the engineering team. Partnering with TSMC has enabled us to roll out new products quickly and efficiently, letting us focus on building world-class FPGAs. We look forward to working with them to double the product line."

More information on the full Titanium FPGA line-up is available on the Efinix website, where the new models are highlighted.
