Compact ClusBerry-2M Packs Two Raspberry Pi Compute Modules 4s for Industrial Clustering Work

Following the company's earlier eight-module ClusBerry launch, the ClusBerry-2M scales down to two for a lower-cost cluster.

Industrial computing specialist TECHBASE Group is preparing to launch a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 carrier with a difference: It can accept two Compute Module 4 boards at once.

Designed alongside the company's more traditional ModBerry 500-CM4 and AI Gateway 9500-CM4 products, which adapt the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 system-on-module family for industrial use, the ClusBerry CM4 is a very different beast. "[The] main difference between standard Gateway and ClusBerry is the possibility to include multiple Compute Module 4 [boards] in one device," the company explains, "as well as the intended suitable amount of wired and wireless interfaces, suited for the project."

Earlier models of the ClusBerry CM4 range, however, were suitable only for larger-scale projects: The first variant, unveiled earlier this year, accepted up to eight Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 boards for clustering or individual operation. For smaller projects, TECHBASE has now announced the ClusBerry-2M — which, as the name suggests, combines just two modules rather than eight.

"The ClusBerry-2M offers similar resources as double ModBerry 500-CM4 with software cluster management tools – Docker and K3s Lightweight Kubernetes solutions," the company explains in its announcement. "Each module can perform various tasks, from standard I/O gateway, wireless modem, Gigabit LAN router to NAS file server and AI Gateway with Google Coral Edge TPU modules."

"You can manage your cluster modules at ease, boot modules from one to another, upgrade firmware crosswise and provide safe operation of each module. The modules are connected to each other to provide such features and allow quick healing of the dual cluster."

More details are available in the official press release; no pricing has been confirmed, but the base version is expected to be available in the next two to four weeks.
