Richard Clarkson Studio has teamed up with Crealev to develop a levitating cloud project dubbed “Making Weather.” You may recall Clarkson’s earlier Smart Cloud interactive installation, which was hung from a ceiling to replicate a thunderstorm through both light and sound. This time, however, the cloud magically floats above a reflective oval base while playing tunes and illuminating up to the beat.

The design consists of polyester fibers that hide a Bluetooth speaker, sound-reactive LEDs, as well as magnetic components that enable the cloud to hover a couple inches off the base.

While the base itself must remain plugged in, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery powers the cloud and enables a totally wireless and unobstructed levitation while in use. With full rotational movement and slight vertical bobbing of the cloud a more realistic atmospheric experience is possible.
