Product Name: I'M FINE FOR THE WORK PLACE!
What It Does: Allows user to send a discreet request for assistance to another
Who Was It Designed For: Original target was for use by National Star Students but could be used by anyone with a need to alert another for assistance
Who Produced It: Combined effort between EDF, National Star, CEMAR and Spirax-Sarco.
HISTORY OF CONCEPT: An initiative to use the technical and creative resources at EDF to assist within the local community resulted in a venture to develop a tool/tools that could be used by students of the National Star, in Gloucestershire, whilst in the workplace.
A variety of workshops (output below) brainstormed the potential requirements and functionality of a product, the restraints that might inhibit some students from using it, technical considerations, assumptions*, timescales. All the ideas were put to a vote and the winner was 'I'm Fine In The Workplace'.
This idea came from a system, used within the college, in which students use a green card/red card system to discreetly ask for help when they are not comfortable to do it publicly. A requirement was identified to extend this system from the classroom to people in the workplace. In particular for those within schemes like the Steps into Work programme implemented at EDF.
At the final workshop it was determined that as a proof of concept a first basic product would be produced. To achieve this the table of desired requirements were rationalised into just 4:
1) Individual to be able to raise an alert to a person.
2) User to be able to share location with manager/buddy
3) Page to show status of all users
4) User to remain logged on at all times (this in order to avoid the need to repeatedly log on.
