This is a conceptual idea for the Lights for Life challenge by GE. Originally the thought was to re-hash the c-sleep bulb into a more convenient USB powered bulb that could be used anywhere there was a USB plug in. That was scratched when I asked my sister what she would like in a "smart" light bulb. Since she recently had a kid she thought it would be nice to have a bulb that could tell how the baby was doing remotely. Mostly with things that an inexpensive camera couldn't do, such as tell the temperature and humidity in the room. By using certain sensors we could make it easier to monitor children without having to have a separate baby monitor. Using a microphone along with Bluetooth, the bulb itself could serve as a baby monitor without the need of extra space being taken. Along with that the temperature and humidity sensors help to tell if the environment that the child is in needs to be adjusted. The three sensors are placed at the apex of the bulb. Many bulbs are too bright to be directed toward a baby crib so the sensors are placed in the center of the bulb to keep light from shining directly toward the location the bulb is facing. There is also a dimming capability to be used when accessing the C By GE app. The app will also allow the user to view the status of the sensors and be left open to be used as a sound monitor.
