"I don't think I will be able to see you again. Sorry. Please raise our children well." This was the last words of Mrs. Lini Puthussery, a 28-year-old nurse, who wrote this note to her husband as she was dying from the deadly Nipah virus on in India's southern state of Kerala. She has two sons, aged five and two.
Lini had been treating a family of three who had been diagnosed with the virus - she is believed to have spent the entire night caring for them. Even though she was wearing a protective mask and PPE Kits, she is reported to have started feeling feverish on Sunday. When she realized that she was experiencing what could be symptoms of the infection, she admitted herself to the hospital and asked to be quarantined, Later it was revealed by the nurse, that she touched her eyes with her hands when felt irritated to her eyes and got infected.
This was a tragic story and an example of even a Medicare personal can get infected by their own fingers.
Hands often become contaminated with respiratory viruses, either directly or through contact with contaminated surfaces. The spread of such viruses could then occur by touching the nasal mucosa or the conjunctivae.
face, 0.7 to 0.9% of RV-14 was transferred. The relatively rapid loss of HPIV-3 infectivity on hands suggests that their role in the direct spread of parainfluenza viruses is limited. However, the findings of this study further reinforce the view that hands can be vehicles for rhinovirus colds. It has been documented that over the course of an hour, a person touches their faces, on average, 23 times. Nearly half of the touches were to the eyes, nose, or mouth — what infectious disease researchers call “the T-zone.”
This was the motivation for my idea of developing a device to alert a person when he unknowingly uses his and to touch his face On hearing getting the alert he withdraws his hand for touching and thereby eliminating the change of infection through hands.
The gadget developed can be clipped onto the face mask or to the spectacles. The PIR sensor inside eh device detects the hand movement when the hand is around I feet close to the face. When detected it produces a beep sound to alert and the person know the risk and he withdraws his preventing a touch
