Diaphragm pump has been widely used in aromatherapy products. It contains a motor based diaphragm pump and jet nozzle to nebulize the pure essential oil. High speed air flow sucks the oil and brings oil into a chamber. In the well designed chamber the dual fluid is atomized into small particles with typical diameter at 6-8um.
However it has considerable noise since the energy source is motor based. There has been a lot of efforts involved to reduce the noises from motor vibrating. And it helps but still quite noticeable.
Now the piezo pump comes and makes the noiseless pump possible.
