In this project, we explore the integration of a laser-based distance and positioning system into a specialized vehicle platform β such as a fire truck or street cleaning unit β to enable automatic object detection, distance measurement, and spraying control.
The core system is composed of:
- Cabin control panel (for human-machine interface)
- Water spray module (mounted with servo for angular control)
- Laser distance & positioning unit (for target localization and spraying range feedback)
How It Works
The laser module continuously detects the distance between the nozzle and the target object (tree, wall, or road). The microcontroller adjusts the spray direction and range based on this feedback.
The sensor concept shown here is inspired by ToF laser distance sensors from Meskernel, which support robust long-range detection and modular customization.
This type of system can significantly reduce water waste and increase automation in public service vehicles, such as:
- Smart firefighting trucks
- Agricultural spraying robots
- Road cleaning vehicles
- Autonomous sanitation robots
