Wouldn't it be nice to have a security system in your home that was wasn't a separate component but instead part of an everyday item? The purpose of this project is to make the lightbulbs in your home act as a security system.
By installing motion detectors inside a C by GE lightbulb, they can detect movement in a room and notify the user when there is a possible intruder. The C by GE app that comes paired with every GE bulb can have an option where the user can choose a timeframe for the security system to turn on. The lightbulb will then monitor the room during that timeframe and if movement is detected, turn itself on, send a notification to the user's phone, and play an alarm sound.
The user can configure some options in the app if the motion detector is triggered.
- Set whether the lightbulb turns on
- Set whether a notification is sent to phone
- Set whether an alarm plays on phone
Example: I use the app to set the security system to turn on tonight from 12:00AM to 6:00AM. I also set it to turn on the light and send notification to my phone. During the timeframe, the motion sensor inside of the lightbulb is on and continuously scanning the room it is in for any movement. If an intruder triggers the motion sensor, then the lightbulb turns on (if it is not on already) and sends a notification to the user's phone alerting them of the movement.
The lightbulb automatically turning on can be useful for scaring off a thief if they think you saw them and turned the light on manually.
