Cal spirit has always been a large part of my Berkeley career. I am proud of the university's symbols and long-standing traditions. Just last year, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the California Victory Cannon. And this year, we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Campanile.
I created a "Fiat Lux" stencil with an image of the Campanile, otherwise known as Sather Tower. I was inspired to create this graffiti stencil when I was passing by the Campanile on day between classes. As this year is the Campanile's 100th anniversary, I wanted to create something that would commemorate the occasion. This stencil could be used anywhere, but I thought it would be fitting to "graffiti" it on the Campanile itself, that way it would draw attention to the tower.
"Fiat Lux" is the university's official motto. It inspires us open ourselves to learning and to further our education. I thought it appropriate to include this phrase with the stencil.
An alternative location I thought of for this graffiti stencil was the tower on the University of Texas, Austin campus. I was in Austin Texas this past weekend, and thought it would be funny at add some Cal spirit onto their campus before the football game.
