Each room has switches. This solution doesn't replace the end nodes, rather switches the whole bank of lights into smart lights at once. Putting an array of sensors and controls into this position, you can quickly turn your house smart at once rather than apply a band-aid to the situation.
Traditional smart bulbs rely on you leaving the switch on, and you have to control the on/off some other way. This way, you keep control, and keep your smart setup.
The switch would look as close to original, save a small screen for advanced interaction and troubleshooting. All the sensors would feed into IFTTT, MQTT, and/or Azure depending on your setup. Those servers would then feed back settings to turn on/off lights, or trigger other automation commands.
Some ways that this can be utilized:
- Using the integrated temp and motion sensors, you can feed that into your Nest, and adjust as needed.
- Using the integrated humidity sensor, you can have the bathroom vent run until it drops below a certain level.
- Automatic fade on of lights based on movement around house (iBeacon and motion sensors).
- Using iBeacon, have tags on your devices to quickly find them in the house.
- SmartSwitchs would be able to map themselves out according to wifi signal strengths. Setup would be mostly physical wiring.
- "Chirp" feature would allow location awareness to blind or navigation in the event of a fire.
- Create 3 way switches on command for additional convenience.
- Bezel would have RGB NeoPixel ring on outer edge for night lighting, mood lighting, and notifications.
- Default lighting would be clock, with brightness dependant on ambient light levels.
- Control lock/unlock/customize based on iBeacon proximity.
- Flame sensor for accurate sensing of flames, not just presence of smoke.
