Make your factory smarter with our IoT kit. With this project, you will be able to monitor vibrations of the machine so you can see if it is working at all or if it has some problems because it is shaking too much. We will be using some 3D printer as a showcase of our industrial machine, but it can be used on the classic factory machine as well.
It is non-invasive so you can deploy it almost anywhere in a short amount of time.
This can serve for some predictive maintenance, you can see if some engine is shaking too much or the machine altogether.
Visit other industrial projects with HARDWARIO IoT Kit on the projects page.
1. Build hardwareYou will need the Mini Cover Module, Mini Battery Module and also a Core Module to control it all. It can run on batteries for around 2 years so you should be fine with 2 AAA batteries.
Just put the Core Module on top of the Mini battery module and top it off with the Cover Module.
2. Flash firmware- Download HARDWARIO Playground,
- Flash firmware to the Core Module that was made for this project. You will find in the Playground by name: bcf-radio-vibration-monitor
- How to flash firmware is shown in the documentation.
You need to pair the Core module with the Radio dongle that you are using, follow the instructions below to see how it is done.
- Connect your USB Radio Dongle to your computer.
- Open HARDWARIO Playground
- Click Start Pairing the LED on the dongle should start blinking
- Connect the device that you want to pair into your computer or insert the batteries.
- Wait for the device to appear in the table
- It should add the device with the Alias: vibration-monitor:0
After you did all this you can unplug the device from the computer and plug in the USB to the socket. The next steps will be done on the computer, so you can leave the device and focus on the NODE-Red.
4. Import flowOpen Node-RED in the Playground or Raspberry Pi and import this flow from the Attachments in the Menu -> Import -> Clipboard.
Do not forget to hit "Deploy" in the top right corner to apply the changes.
This flow does some transformations over the data and places it into the table and differentiates the heat by the colors
5. Test your devicePlace your device on some engine or onto the production line so you know about any movement on there. Send the data to your technician, so he can fix the machine while there is still time.
Device sends data every few minutes or if it detects the movement.
SummaryMake work easier for your technicians, have real-time insight into what is happening in your machinery. It is simple to make and powerful.
You can make some adjustments to the code so it suits your needs and your machine needs.
