The app is desired to required as few actions as possible to display all the wanted information. The result of these interaction makes change onto the sentence on the top of the screen to help the users know their progress and whether they are doing the right thing as they go. This assumes that the users can read and understand the sentence on the top screen.
The set of planet icons are for the pleasure in the eyes and fun interaction where you can actually tap on the planets. Also, it is desired more toward kids where they can learn by seeing and touching objects. By observing my nieces playing animal sound games on IPad, they enjoy touching animal photos, and it makes corresponding sounds, so that they can connect the effect (the sound) with their action (which animal they touch).
There also exists a "Reset" button, the magic button to reverse time and start over.
The app is target toward people who just want to play around with it, especially kids who are learning to read words and numbers. On the design aspect, it is even better suitable for kids if there are added sound features where it reads the sentence on the top of the screen or the resulted number underneath the icons. The blue border for selected icon can be made into a blue glow around the planets for more natural look instead of a square enclosed blue box.
