Cisco Nexus 1000V is a software-based virtual switch designed for virtualized data center environments. It enables organizations to manage virtual networks with more advanced control and visibility compared to standard hypervisor switches.
Cisco Nexus 1000V integrates with platforms such as VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper V, supporting centralized management, improved network visibility, and granular policy enforcement in virtual infrastructures.
The product is available in two license editions: Essential Edition and Advanced Edition. The Essential Edition includes core networking features such as 802.1Q VLAN tagging, Layer 2 switching, basic Quality of Service (QoS), CDP, SNMP, Syslog, and NetFlow. It is generally suited for smaller or less complex virtual environments.
The Advanced Edition adds expanded capabilities, including Layer 3 routing, Access Control Lists (ACLs), Private VLANs, multicast routing, Virtual Port Channel (vPC), FabricPath technology, and support for Data Center Network Manager (DCNM). These features are intended for larger infrastructures requiring more advanced networking and security controls.
