PART 2 HERE: https://www.hackster.io/elecj/gandalf-robotic-companion-cat-part-2-b062aa
Inspired by Alex Glow and Odd Jayy's companion bots, I have decided to make my own; a cat robot, named Gandalf. Gandalf will lay over my shoulder kind of like Alex Glow's F3NR1R and will have head and paw movement triggered by a "remote-control" micro:bit.
To make a robot like Gandalf, you need the Adafruit Crickit, two micro:bits (and the micro:bit battery packs that you can get as an accessory here), two non-continuous micro-servos, and any other non-continuous servo that you might have. You can also buy a clear case for each micro:bit (this will make labeling them easier).
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING, take a sharpie or some other permanent marker and LABEL YOUR MICROBITS (write on the clear cases)! I labeled mine 1 and 2. 1 is the controller and 2 will be on the robot.
Then, put the micro:bit battery pack into whichever of the micro:bits will be the controller. For me, this is 1.
Now, cut out the head and two arms for your robot. Gandalf is a cat, so I made some fairly simple arms and a head using cardboard.
Now set all that to the side and go to the Microsoft MakeCode website. When you get there, it will look like the picture below. Click on the micro:bit extension.
Now you will see this (I have already made some projects, so they show up. You should see nothing to the right of the "New Project" button.);
Click "New Project"
It should now look like the above. Click the drop-down "Advanced" menu and go to "Extensions." Then search in the little Extension search bar that pops up for "Crickit." NOT Cricket. Crickit.
Then you'll see an extension called "crickit." Click it.
Then it should look like above. Now there's a little green-and-white button with "Crickit" on it. Congrats! Crickit is now in your code!
Sadly, this is the end of Part 1. I can't upload some pictures that I want to because I already have too much on this article, so stay tuned for part 2!
