My son and I wanted to do an electronics project together. He came up with the idea of a color sensor that would show the color hex code. But other things, like study, came first and before I knew it, he lives in a student house. To prevent the project from dying, I finished it myself.
Features that can't be seen on the photos:
- Pressing the right button freezes the display, so the color hex code can be written down.
- Pressing the left button for three seconds turns off the color sensor and brings the microcontroller in deep sleep mode, preserving the battery. The transistor is used to switch the color sensor on and off.
- Overexposure detection. When one of the RGB colors is maxed out, the calculated color would be wrong. Instead, an overexposure warning is shown.
A feature that can be seen on the photos:
- Battery level indicator.
