I love Waveshare’s RP2350 Touch 2.8C so much I wanted to build a Secret Santa Project based on it. A smart clock, well it is a circular display.
This Secret Santa project is part of a YouTube collaboration with three other YouTubers. Check out what they built as gifts too: 🚨Kevin Mcaleer (https://youtube.com/@kevinmcaleer28) 🚨John at SteamHead (https://youtube.com/@steamhead) 🚨Dan Makes Things (https://youtube.com/@DanMakesThings) See all the Videos here:
I have looked at this Waveshare RP2350 Touch 2.8C (https://www.waveshare.com/rp2350-touch-lcd-2.8c.htm?&aff_id=DrJonEA) on a previous video (https://youtu.be/-u2XIbHQjew). I thought it would make an amazing smart clock as a gift. Building a gift I learnt a lot about the board, and how to construct products.
The project simply uses a Pico 2 W and RP2350 Touch 2, 8C. It uses the connectors that come with the Touch 2.8C to connect these two. The Touch 2.8C display then uses LVGL to draw the clock and manage the user interface. While the Pico 2 W sources data from Web Services for display. This architecture helped me quickly develop the project as separate components.
I did run into a few problems with the project, mainly running out of RAM on the Touch 2.8C. The Framebuffer uses 460kb of the 520kb on an RP2350. So I had to add a PSRAM chip and place some objects onto the PSRAM.
