"Surveillance: The Black Box" is a protest object that act's as a mock security camera detector. Centered around the social discourse of overly surveilled black bodies and identities, this prototype questions what security means to a person of color. The all white structure serves as a juxtaposition to this social dilemma (adding to the irony and symbolism of the title itself).
Through using dark/bright inputs in makecode, I have created a device that reacts to environmental lighting and transforms it into sound. Upon activation, the sensors on the playground flash green signaling "camera detection" and/or "access granted". An alternate sound is played (stopping when the environmental light is removed). Without light the sensors all become red while signaling a siren noise representing an "error". The process repeats.
