Here is my application that integrates XKCD comics with Flickr images, which mostly operates as an XKCD browser with pretty and relevant pictures.
Some background behind my thought process: I wanted to display the picture in a way that enhanced, but didn't interfere with the browsing of the XKCD comics. Therefore, I decided to use the picture as a background of the header. Since comic browsing is the main purpose of the app, the comic occupies the majority of the screen space.
The screen starts with the comic of the day. To navigate, there are three simple buttons on the bottom: previous, random, and next. The picture of the header updates with the comics with a relevant picture from Flickr, which was obtained with a search query with words of the title as tags. To sway the results toward prettier pictures, I added additional tags to filter out unprofessional and inappropriate results.
For the extra credit features, I implemented a random button, integrated the text in a non-destructive manner, and also paid extra attention to design and how the user can get the most out of an XKCD browsing app.
