The light is an essential factor in human life. Every day, sunrise and sunset pace our lives, the weather makes us more or less good mood, we dream of sunshine in the rain and cloud when it is too hot. It’s proven, natural light a ects sleep, moral or health!
Yet throughout our day, we move away from our natural rhythm in a too dark o ce, with an alarm clock that rings too early and short nights. Such pro igacy of the normal pace of life contamment play on our emotions and inner well-being. How to put permit natural light in the heart of our day? With the Life Beam!
Throughout the day, this frame adjusts its brightness according to your environment. Have you been working all day in a dark room? It will give you that little sun beam so important for your moral. Do you have to wake up early? The Life Beam will prepare your awakening bringing you all the light needed. The Life beams helps you rebalance your resources to o er you the best day possible.
The Life Beam is composed of a high power light box delivering a bright light flow... Needless to say that it is also able to display a countless number to adapt to the time of the day.
It is possible to control the Life Beam via a dedicated application on any smartphone. The user experience can be improved by turning on geo- tracking, which means that The Life Beam will be completely autonomous through the different cycles of the day.
Its conventional size (A4 format) helps a lot when it comes to transportation. One simple cloth pouch, and there you go! The Life Beam will follow its happy owner to the house, the office... anywhere. Last but not least, The Life Beam was made to fit the frames of traditional size. Do you have a «Stromby frame» from Ikea at home ? Well, it’ll work perfectly in it. Magic!
Many studies were carried out to prove how light affects the human body. Everyday, scientists make discoveries showing that light is crucial to regulate the gears of our body on the scale of a lifetime.
The biological clock
When should I get up? Is it time for bed yet? The rhythms of light set the pace for our body. Any beam perceived by our eye cells will trigger a nerve message going directly to our brain, causing a specific hormone secretion. There are the ones which are involved in physical and psychological activity during the day but there’s also melatonin : this one shares a close link with how our sleep works. According to researchers from the INSERM (The French national institute for health and medical research) heart conditions, depression, eating disorders and failing memory can be somehow associated with any disruption of our biological clock.
The mood and mental health
Other researchers (from the National Institute of Mental Health, in the U.S.) succeeded in highlighting the « seasonal mood disorder » due to the absence of light, especially in Winter. It is known that when the cold is drawing near, cases of strong fatigue and dramatic declines of motivation multiply. The fact is that in northern countries, (where time exposure to the sun is limited) there is a stronger tendency to depression or even suicide.
Strengthening the immune system and bone
Chemically speaking, light allows the formation of vitamin D when it gets to our skin. This type of vitamin solidify our bones and ensures the proper functioning of macrophages, prominent white cells in the beginning of any immune reaction.
Finally vitamin D is also associated with a lower risk of cancer and cardiovascular events.

The Day
A day in a dark office (or poorly lit) in front of a computer causes visual and mental fatigue. Do we even need to mention that your rhythm is disturbed now ?
The evenning
The trip home is difficult, and everything seems dark while you are tired. You’re watching a movie in front of a television that emits blue light, which wakes your body up and avoid melatonin from doing its regular job : putting you to sleep… So bad…
WITH THE LIFE BEAM
Awakening
The Life Beam acts as a dawn simulator : it can be set on a wanted wake-up time or on the time of the sunrise at a requested place. A warm but powerful light will surround the sleeper to give all the energy necessary for a long day incoming.
The Day
To clarify, it’s the perfect companion for any situation. It give the user enough light to feel energized during the whole day. The light created by The Life Beam includes the same components as sun light, stimulating stamina and interest. When the end of the day has come the color temperature becomes warmer, announcing the evening.
The evenning
Being back home doesn’t mean that the device will shut down. On the contrary it will continue to bring you all of the light needed, gently enough to keep your cycle to operate. The « sunset » function helps you to find the perfect and refreshing sleep while the device is slowly switching off. Moreover, you won’t find blue light coming from the panel, which is not the case of our regular phones et TVs. Blue light prevents the production of melatonin to start.
The Life Beam is fully controllable with any smartphone, due to its bluetooth connectivity. You can set the wake up time, the bed time, your location, You can even set the color temperature and more, just with a finger… or two!
A RGB LED template covering the entire bottom of the casing emits all the light coming from the Life Beam. Each WQ2812 LED type is individually controllable, which helps creating light evolutions and graphic images. An acrylic frosted glace lays on the device : it diffuses better and harmonizes the light flow.
The use of RGB LEDs allows the creation of an almost infinite color palette with the same color temperatures as the ones we can find in the nature : from a white daytime light (5600K) to a warmer light in the morning and evening (2800K).
The LEDs are monitored by a micro-controller (which will be an Arduino Uno for the prototype) and powered via a 5V supply. On the micro-controller is also installed a Bluetooth gateway to manage the interactions with smartphones. A quartz module gives time to the second.
The Life Beam is powered by sector.
The case is made of fine metal and painted black. A lip around it lets us hanging it in any frame of the proper size (A4 format).

The Night Light
You can set the Life Beam to act as a night light for a child or even to leave a glimmer in an adult bedroom.
It is also possible in this function to choose a « star effect », showing on the screen a stunning galaxy.
The Blue Light
As blue light affects our sleep, The Life Beam can help you not to fall asleep suddenly. In case of night work or if you have any necessity to stay awake, the Life Beam will display blue light, preventing melatonin to force you to sleep.
