The large display stand will have a (removable) whiteboard mounted at the top, back-to-back with the interactive whiteboard. With the addition of some pulley wheels (3D printed) with integral skate bearings and some metal stranded wire we can connect to a pair of stepper motors to drive a horizontal bar in the vertical axis. The bar will carry further pulleys and carry a stage which runs on a pair of smooth rods (with linear bearings?)
The stage will carry a pen holder and an eraser holder. These can both be engaged with solenoids or servos to push into the whiteboard to draw or erase.
The pen will park into a hole/cap arrangement in one corner of the display when not in motion.
The electronics will most likely be Raspberry PI or beaglebone based to support a network connection to allow the display to be given commands. There could be multiple display areas in operation simultaneously each running from a separate process connected to a central motion planner/arbiter process.
It may be necessary to build a custom IO expander and motor drive (using standard stepper modules) to interface to the controller.
This project consists of multiple technology facets; woodwork, 3D modeling+printing, metalwork, PCB design, electronics design, embedded software programming and web/network interfacing.
Volunteers please! Don't be shy, much to be learned here!
