This project was a class assignment to make a Smart Room Controller. The inspiration for my project was my dishwasher that continues to leak randomly. The leak is in a location that bypasses the dishwasher's built-in leak detection functionality. So I decided to build a simple leak detector. The leak detector's humidity sensor will be placed close to the leak area. A piece of absorbent material will be placed near the humidity sensor. When the dishwasher starts to leak, the absorbent material will soak up the liquid and generate the humidity needed to activate the humidity sensor. Once activated, a buzzer will sound loudly, lights will flash, and fans will go on to dry the area. The alerts will stop once the humidity returns to normal levels.
Note: fans are controlled over ethernet using Wemo smart outlets. Lights are controlled over ethernet using a Phillips Hue REST API.
