I wanted a grow box for useful plants like parsley. After looking for off the shelf solutions, I decided to build my own :)
Plants need a lot of things to grow, nutrients rich soil, water, light. So, I've decided to address the lighting problem first. Choosing LED strips as a light source was no brainer. But I needed a simple, cheap, and aesthetically pleasing solution. 3D-printing seemed perfect for the task, so, I fired up Fusion360 and modeled a modular Lego-like system for building mounts for LED strips.
Key features:
- easy to print
- cost and time effective (when using bamboo barbecue skewers option)
- could be easily adjusted when the plant grows higher
STL files available at Prusa Printers
As a next step, I'm going to add a microcontroller for lights control and soil moisture monitoring. Stay tuned.
