What's this?
PowerSwitch Tail II is "the easiest way to control an AC device with an Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Beaglebone, or any other DIY controller (powerswitchtail.com)." "Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for anyone making interactive projects (arduino.cc)." By controlling your PowerSwitch Tail II with your Arduino Uno via Octoblu's IoT platform, it is very easy to make a variety of projects in a matter of seconds.
You will need
1. Octoblu account
2. PowerSwitch Tail II
3. Arduino Uno
4. Two jumper wires
Arduino Setup
To get your Arduino Uno to work with Octoblu over virtual serial, please follow this entire guide by Moheeb Zara. Once this is done, connecting your PowerSwitch Tail is easy.
PowerSwitch Tail II Setup
All that needs to be done to connect your PowerSwitch to your Arduino is to connect pin 13 and ground on your Arduino to +in and -in on your PowerSwitch:
You're all set!
Connect the male end of the PowerSwitch to an outlet and the female end to whatever you would like to power. Wire up your Arduino and PowerSwitch, go back to app.octoblu, try the triggers, and let your imagination take over. You could create a siren that goes off whenever you receive a follower on Twitter or a switch that turns your TV off at night in case you fall asleep!
