World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz faces No. 13 Casper Ruud today in the 2026 Indian Wells tournament fourth round.
Alcaraz arrives in the second week of the tournament with strong momentum and an unbeaten start to the 2026 season. The Spaniard entered Indian Wells carrying a perfect record after capturing titles at the Australian Open and the ATP 500 event in Doha, reinforcing his position atop the rankings and his status as the player to beat on hard courts this year.
The world No. 1 opened his Indian Wells campaign with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 win over Grigor Dimitrov, before recovering from a slow start to defeat Arthur Rinderknech 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 in the previous round.
The Spaniard has historically excelled in the California desert, capturing the Indian Wells title in 2023 and 2024, and continues to rely on his explosive movement, heavy forehand, and improved serve to dictate matches even on slower hard courts.
Ruud has built momentum in Indian Wells with two competitive victories to reach the fourth round. He opened his run with a 6-1, 7-6 win over Alexander Shevchenko, cruising through the first set before holding firm in a tighter second.
The Norwegian then advanced after a more demanding three-set battle against Valentin Vacherot, rallying from a first-set loss to prevail 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Across both matches, Ruud has shown strong physical endurance and patience from the baseline, using his heavy forehand to outlast opponents on the slower desert hard courts.
