This document introduces the Ai-Thinker Rd-03 V2 radar module, including product features, main control parameters, schematics, applications, and installation. It also demonstrates distance sensing tests using the official software tools.
Introduction
Rd-03_V2 is a radar module developed by Ai-Thinker, based on the S1KM0000 chip (an integrated millimeter-wave sensor SoC). It operates at the 24GHz K-band (single-frequency sweep modulation bandwidth of 1GHz).
- Maximum sensing distance for moving human targets: 7m
- Uses FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) technology to detect motion or micro-movements of human bodies in the sensing area, providing real-time detection results
- Provides a visual configuration tool for easy setup of detection range, sensitivity in different zones, and no-person delay time
- Supports automatic generation of detection thresholds, reducing manual calibration, improving detection accuracy, simplifying installation, and enabling large-scale deployment

Applications
- Human presence lighting control
- Advertising display activation
- Life safety protection
- Smart appliances
- Smart security
- Smart lighting
- New energy charging/parking monitoring facilities
Installation Guidelines
- Ensure radar antenna faces the detection area with no obstruction
- Secure installation; shaking affects detection performance
- Avoid movement behind the radar; back-lobe signals may detect unintended objects. Use metal shielding if necessary
- Detection distance may vary due to target size, posture, RCS, etc.
- Avoid direct alignment of multiple 24GHz radars; install them apart to prevent interference
- Keep antennas away from metals and high-frequency devices
- Power input 3.0–3.6V; ripple within 100kHz should have no significant peaks

Testing
Two test methods: serial debugging and PC software debugging
Serial Debugging
- Download and run Ai-Thinker Serial Debug Assistant
- Use USB-to-TTL tool to connect module and PC
- Configure serial parameters, open port, and receive distance data
PC Debugging
- Download and run PC tool software
- Select module COM port, set baud rate 115200
- Click "Connect Device" to establish connection
- Software displays firmware version, parameters, and real-time data
Parameter Explanation
- Maximum Distance: Sets effective detection distance (step = 0.7m, range: 0–10, accuracy: 0.1m)
- Target Disappearance Delay: Delay before switching from “detected” to “not detected” state (range: 0–65535s)
- Trigger Threshold (dB): Energy threshold for switching from “no person” to “person detected, ” auto-calculated via software
- Micro-motion Threshold (dB): Energy threshold for micro-motion detection
Real-time Data
- Indicator light: Red = person detected; Green = no person
- Distance data displayed in a text box
- “Start/Pause” button toggles detection
- “Generate Threshold” scans noise and calculates detection thresholds
- Motion/micro-motion graphs show real-time energy vs. threshold values
- Distance vs. Time chart displays distance changes within the last 60s
Power Interference
- The module self-checks power upon startup
- If interference exists, PC software will notify under the distance info tab
