Being a CAL student and a proud BEAR, I wanted to use a bear in my design. To make it look cute in a way that you can use this ring to propose your 'someone special', I shifted my thought to using a teddy bear with a heart. This signifies what you are offering to the girl while you are proposing her- so much of love :)
The base ring was designed in SolidWorks and has a 270 degrees arc with 19 mm diameter and the two ends of the arc were joined using a straight line. The thickness of the overall ring was 2 mm. This gives a freedom to glue big and heavy parts on the ring as compared to a circular design, which offers a small surface area to glue something that is flat.
The CAD of the teddy bear and heart was done in Solidworks. There are various iterations of CADs for such geometries available on grabcad.com for free. I assembled the three parts in SolidWorks Assembly to ensure that the sizes for each of them were compatible.
The three parts were 3-D printed on Afina 3-d printer using different colored filaments (black for base ring, yellow for teddy and red for the heart) at 0.15mm resolution. Finally, the 3 parts were glued together using Acetone and allowed to dry.
