LVL1 Hackerspace in Louisville has been participating in Maker Faire and the Power Wheel races for several years now. Watching the races on video is ok. Looking at the GoPro helmet cams is better. But what about a little more immersion.
For immersion, this project proposes the recording of sensor data from the view point of the vehicle and driver. The two perspectives being justified by the reality of the drivers helmet whipping around is not the same experience as the vehicle whipping around. The two perspectives will then be added to GoPro helmet-cam footage. Add microphones and the experience is better relayed.
This project lays out three generations of development. The first is basic raw data capture and playback. Next comes graphical representation of data and combination with video. Finally, a realtime presentation of all that is being captured.
