Stencil is an art expression that exist in relation with the wall where the paint is sprayed. I think about the stencil as an urban and static art expression. That's the reason for this project I wanted to focus in thinking a way to make the stencil non-static. Being an urban cyclist payed and important roll in my decision process. Instead of choosing a fixed place to spray the stencil, I decided to put it in the back of a t-shirt so I could carry it with my to any place and at any time I ride my bicycle.
Sometimes, in the interaction with cars, I feel people forget that, more than a cyclist, more than an object making traffic slower, or just using another lane, there is an actual human body vulnerable to the interaction with the cars: frequently, cars pass by very close or the bicycle lanes are blocked by cars or trucks parked there.
So instead of putting putting a sentence or a picture in the stencil, I decided to use the same design I used for the tattoo I wear in my right arm.
This is a way for me to metaphorically express and make visible my body while riding the bicycle in the bike lanes. The stencil looks like this:
